We’re pleased to continue the 3D Sleep Webinar Series – a monthly program focused on helping dental teams strengthen their confidence, enhance communication, and deliver improved outcomes in dental sleep medicine.
As dentists, we are increasingly exposed to claims about mouth breathing, tongue-tie, myofunctional therapy, airway focused orthodontics, and early intervention. But which approaches are genuinely supported by evidence, and which are based primarily on theory and emerging research?
In this practical webinar, leading orthodontist, Dr Leigh Jones, will provide an objective, evidence-based review of the current literature and a simple framework for evaluating new concepts before introducing them into clinical practice.
What you will learn:
- How to understand the difference between biological plausibility and proven clinical effectiveness.
- How to interpret the current evidence for mouth breathing, tongue-tie, myofunctional therapy and airway-focused orthodontics.
- How to review the evidence for rapid maxillary expansion, functional appliances and early orthodontic treatment in children.
- How to recognise common cognitive biases that can influence clinical decision-making.
- How to appreciate the role of multidisciplinary collaboration in managing sleep-disordered breathing.
- How to apply a practical evidence-based framework when assessing new therapies and treatment concepts.
Dr Leigh Jones is a Specialist Orthodontist with a Master of Dental Science and PhD in Odontology from Aarhus University, Denmark. He has more than 20 years’ experience as a clinical educator at The University of Sydney, mentoring postgraduate orthodontic registrars, and has also held an Assistant Clinical Professor appointment at Aarhus University.
